Search Engine Marketing, or SEM, is a form of Internet Marketing that seeks to promote websites by increasing their visibility in the Search Engine result pages (SERPs). According to the Search Engine Marketing Professionals Organization,
SEM methods include: Search Engine Optimization (or SEO), paid placement, and paid inclusion.
Social marketing is the systematic application of marketing along with other concepts and techniques to achieve specific behavioral goals for a social good.
The primary aim of 'social marketing' is 'social good', while in 'commercial marketing' the aim is primarily 'financial'. This does not mean that commercial marketers can not contribute to achievement of social good. Using the benefits of doing 'social good' to secure and maintain customer engagement. In 'social marketing' the distinguishing feature is therefore it's 'primary' focus on 'social good', and it is not a secondary outcome. Not all 'public sector and not-for-profit marketing is social marketing.

Marketing is a societal process that is needed to discern consumers' wants; focusing on a product/service to those wants, and to mold the consumers toward the products/services. Marketing is fundamental to any businesses growth.
Viral marketing
Viral marketing and viral advertising refer to marketing techniques that use preexisting social networks to produce increases in brand awareness, through self-replicating viral processes, analogous to the spread of pathological and computer viruses.
It can be word-of-mouth delivered or enhanced by the network effects of the Internet. Viral marketing is a marketing phenomenon that facilitates and encourages people to pass along a marketing message voluntarily. Viral promotions may take the form of video clips, interactive Flash games, advergames, ebooks, brandable software, images, or even text messages.
