MY viewpoints: yes seo will survive as long as search engines live, so basically it depends upon the type of optimization that would be used to gain traffic. There would be technologies coming like automatic seo optimization or pages automated where there is no need for seo's, but still optimization, keyword research, web analytics research would prevail in the long term as long as seo's keep away from black hat techniques
